>> thank you, miss okeff. anybody have any questions, commissioner murase and vice president? >> thank you, very much for that presentation. i think that it is so important for our families and our communities to understand these changes. my question is about the elementary level, you have listed three schools, but i assume the changes will impact more than those three schools, the elementary level. i am thinking in particular, about rosa parks and there was a major petition campaign about busing from rosa parks to after school programs. so i wanted to know where we can find information about the list of elementary schools that are impacted and in particular, about the connection to after school programs. >> thanks, commissioner murase. this is actually the list of schools. so we don't anticipate for the 13-14 school year making any changes beyond this in order to get to the 25 buses. but we do imagine that throughout this year, we need to kind of a planning process to make sure that the services as currently designed do meet the board's policy guidelines and do provide equal

would maybe, assume delegate windy ly and murase you may want a resolution to go a little bit deeper into what has been suggested, okay? >> roll call? >> thank you. >> i just wanted to say this and i just appreciate this effort but i am not going to try to add language. but what i want to point out is that this does not make us, i mean in the resolve, there is no specific reference to the superintendent's initiative. so and we discussed that basically what the staff is going to do, the federal office staff is what they do any way. so i just want to for the record is to kind of make sure that the communication with the sites, from the central office, will not only say here is things available to you, but it will make reference to the superintendent's initiative. it will sort of communicate to the sites that this is a priority for us and it is always a priority. but in particular, this year it is a area of emphasis and so, i just want to, you know, i am kind of presume that is happening, can you reassure us that it will. >> yes, i can. >> okay, thank you, i am fine with that. >> is the
in the classroom and school site. thank you. >> commissioner murase. >> yes. i want to thank staff for this information in a user friendly format. i think the graphics are great. it's easily accessible. i want to thank staff for that. three comments. first i really think in light of 25% budget cuts from the state in the recent time period that these scores are remarkable. really rationally the scores should be going down; right? because we have 25 less resources. we have forced closure dispais layoffs and defies logic that the test scores are moving in the right direction and i really want to think and it's possible only as the commissioner pointed out and the blood and sweat of the tears of parents and peers and students and before my comment on the scores i want to congratulate you on the drop of suspension rates and they're deathly. are you removing kids from a learning environment and giving up on them and bringing that down to 4% is really huge and i attribute that to board leadership and restorative practices, leadership at the school sites and to principals and claud

? >> commissioner murase? >> commissioner? you make sure that this is on some future agenda. >> yes. >> i will. >> okay. let's go on to the next report which is the report on augmented curriculum and program committees commissioner fewer. >> we had an update on the graduation requirements similar to what we discussed at the select committee meeting. looking at who is on track to graduating and who is not on track to graduate and also we looked at some special education and disproportionalty of african americans in special education and the education disability category of emotional disturbance. and it was, you know, pretty depressing stuff. we had some very interesting data. we asked for more data on it. i think that it is definitely an issue that we must tackle this year and make some improvement or we will never, ever be able to close our racial achievement gap. so this is imperative and dr. blonco was prompt in sending us information that we requested in that meeting and that is about our non-public school placement who with that population looks like and for what disability that we say tha
them out and called specifically some of the schools" and commissioner murase makes a great point about funding but when you listed some of the simple strategies going forward some of them match what the high leverage strategies that the principals gave us and some didn't and since we know in some of the schools where this incredible acceleration is going what are we doing to replicate what is happening there across the district? >> it's a very insightful question. i will take the first piece of it and then i will ask deputy superintendent to also chime in. we need to be honest with the public and be honest with ourselves and we have perpetuated in our school system not unlike large urban school systems and practices and systems that for years have served some of our students well and some of our communities well, and we talked about going deeper and further we're talking about disassembling some of those systems. for example who gets into an ap class? who gets into an algebra class? there are schools for good and well thought out and historical reasons figure there are certa
